Vin and Steve,
I suspect the Steve meant Forthrop Lagoon , which in the town (is Lake Pertobe
in (Warrnambool?), is also well worth a visit. Lewin's Rail (at least two)
were seen by all members of the SUNBOC group which visited Portland 28/3 to
4/4. The tide needed to be out, so that some mud was exposed near the reeds,
and some patience was required but they were seen from the railing at the end
of the boardwalk near the railway line, on several days during the week.
Buff-banded Rail were also seen near the reeds 'diagonally opposite' across the
lagoon and near the short boardwalk (and playground?). A station of the
Portland Tourist Tram is nearby, perhaps the family might do a lap while you
look?
