G'day Vin
Cape Nelson lighthouse is a good vantage point for seabird watching.
Lake Pertobe in town is good for waders, ducks, herons, etc. Nice
playgrounds there too (depends on how old your kids are I guess).
The harbour is often very good for birds. The main public wharf is often
good. Depends on the weather but I've seen Albatross at the end.
Black-faced Cormorants are certainties in the harbour. Could be some
nice
terns around.
You should visit the gannets. I doubt if you could pick out the Cape
Ganets from the viewing platform however. As you face them they are on
the
left side at the front.
Cape Bridgewater is good also - esp Bridgewater Lakes and Discovery Bay
beaches.
Check out my website for more info.
Let us know how you get on
Cheers
