Following on from part 4As to people's interpretation of the birds in the photographs, I have sent a less cropped shot to Tom for his website ( http://www.aviceda.org/abid/newimages.php ) , which shows a considerably larger plover to the left of the two plovers that people are referring to. I think the white collared plover is more likely to be a lesser sand than a greater. Ultimately given the wide variation in wader plumage, and corresponding variation in terms of people's interpretation of what they see, wader identification is a subjective process where people make definitive statements at their peril.
