Peter Certainly looks like the type of collar commonly used on swans. The ones I saw in Japan had numeric codes to identify individuals. Have a look at Frith's "Waterfowl in Australia". From memory this has some 1960's photos of Black Swans with neck bands. You may just have confirmed the first recorded movement of a goose from the top end to Victoria.
