I have had Wandering Whistling-ducks with up to 12 ducklings in the past at Sandgate Lagoon near the Shortland WC (the same lagoon where we saw the male Garganey in breeding plumage in the 1990's) on at least 2 occassions and at the same time as Magpie Geese Duckling's.
 
I always see many of the waders (esp. Marsh and Sharp-tailed Sandpiper) go to the big pond on the other side of the railway line when the tide comes up on Ash Island but have not checked there this year as the trains seem to be always in the way.
