Hi Folks,
Just on this thread.... I visited Ash Island on tues 17th at around
11am. As it was low tide, there was no chance of the BBSP. Most waders had
moved of to the riverside. But, the Yellow Wagtail was spotted at Pole 21
amongst Willie Wagtails and 4 Sacred Kingfishers.
At Pole 24, I met Bill Mackay ( Bill, sorry if there are spelling
mistakes with your name !). Bill showed me the Red-capped Dotterels nest
near pole 24. Two eggs that are too easily mistaken for rocks. Parents were
8m away and fairly disinterested, but watching.
I'm concerned that with all of the traffic generated by the BBSP, the
Dotterels are going to abandon the nest. Bill and I found a second nest
with two eggs, between pole 22 and pole 23 and it was just off the tyre
tracks on the right (heading NW).

My point would be, If you wish to find the BBSP, please stay
carefully in the centre of the track, as a deviation may terminate some
Red-capped Dotterels eggs.

Happy Birding and thanks to Bill for some pleasant company.

Cheers

Simon Hayes

Hello all,

Tried for it on afternoon of 18th but without success. Few birds of any
description about.Together with another Sydney hopeful I checked out the
site of previous sightings and adjacent areas, also the mangrove- lined
creek to the north beyond the east-west cross track. Half a dozen Sharp
tailed Sandpipers feeding amongst the dead trunks and branches but no
Yellow Wagtail. Found the nest mentioned by Alan Morris , The two
cryptically marked eggs seemed disproportionaly large for such a little
bird. Must have heaved a big sigh of relief. A strong southerly
developed during the early afternoon, the only creatures enjoying the
blustery conditions were five Pelicans giving their display of tight
formation flying, at times escorted by a squadron of Australian Ibis.
Much consternation in the neighborhood this morning, a couple of
Crested Bazas arrived, to be meet by a mixed Neighborhood Watch
committee of the usual suspects { 18 Noisy Miners-I stopped counting!}
