HI All, A few years ago, there was a mysterious 'bacterial' oil-slick in Port Philip Bay. It consisted of large sheets of some type of bacterial/fungi substance that was seen floating over most of Port Philip Bay. The last thing i heard about this, it was being studied by scientists working down at Queenscliffe. Is anyone aware of their findings about what this substance was? Did anyone observe the substance themselves, and witness an interaction of seabirds with the substance? I recently saw 2 Little Pied Cormorants with a bright yellow/orange colouration over there chest, that made me think back to this phenomena. Has anyone else seen this colouration on Little Pied Cormorants and are able to offer a suggestion to what it might be? Cheers, Peter |
