Banded Stilts at Cheetham Salt Works and access there

Good news about the Banded Stilts but access is not as simple as
that.

It is necessary to get a permit to enter the Cheetham saltworks at Moolap
(and Avalon, and possibly other Cheetham works). 

For Moolap, ring the Site Manager Noel Taylor, 03 5248 5326 or mobile
0407 505 961. He will email you an application form which you complete
and email back; approval will be emailed back to you. Then when you go
you bring the form signed by all members of your party. Noel prefers 2
working days notice. When you arrive go to the site office (the big brick
building on the Portarlington Road) and sign in, and take a numbered
badge which you return when you leave . (This is so they know you are
safely out.) Visitors are required to carry a mobile phone (for safety
reasons). There is a sheet of rules about access and you should be given
one when you arrive, the first time at any rate. 

Access is allowed only when there are Cheetham staff on site; ie it is
forbidden at weekends and on public holidays.

All this is part of Cheetham's safety policy; landowners must know who is
on their property and be in a position to control access and use as they
are liable for any accidents or injuries.
