Dean,

Peter Harrison's 'Seabirds: an identification guide' was first published in
1983. It was a ground-breaking work and is still 'the bible'. So buy it,
preferably the latest edition but if you're getting one cheap, go ahead.

In 1987, he published 'Seabirds of the World: a Photographic Guide'. Also a
must for your library.
