Hi all
I found a first year Black-headed Gull at the wharf area in Darwin this
evening. This is a very different bird from the one in adult winter plumage
that
I saw a week ago. A few visiting birdwatchers were lucky enough to be
around and see the bird this evening. I visited the area the day after seeing
the adult last week but couldn't find it, and someone else also looked in the
interim without luck. Hopefully this one will stay around.
The Northern Pintail seems to be definitely gone from the Darwin area,
though could be tucked away somewhere. I haven't seen it since Christmas
Day.
The White Wagtail is still around, though not seen on every visit to the
sewage works.
At least one Little Ringed Plover and several Barn Swallows are also around.
Otherwise, all is quiet on the birding front.

Happy birding

Niven
