Simon's message re the CB Cuckoo being fed by Currawongs prompts me to ask
how long do the foster parents have to keep feeding these monster chicks? I
believe they head off north by End February, so assume they have to be self
sufficient by then.

'My' chick (see http://members.optusnet.com.au/ozbirds/cbcuckoo.html ) is
still around being fed by Pied Currawongs this week, it has been around for
about 3 weeks now, and only appears to have moved over an area of about 10
houses on a suburban block. There are a lot of big eucalypts in the area and
he keeps to them on the whole.

Must be a Kingfisher year - went for a walk on New Year's Day and saw 3
species in one tree, Laughing Kookaburra, Azure and Sacred all in a she-oak
on the river bank. First Azure I have seen this year.

Best regards - Mike
