Hi All,

I have been looking to find out why it is that the Comb-crested Jacana is given different scientific names in a number of field guides. The following are the three examples i have found to date. Sorry most of my questions are stupid but I hope you can help on this one.

1. Michael Morcombe Field Guide to Australian Birds list the bird as Metopidius (Irediparra) gallinacea

2. The Graham Pizzey & Frank Knight Field Guide to the Birds of Australia list the bird as Irediparra gallinacea

3. The Slater Field Guide to Australian Birds (latest revised and updated edition) lists the bird as Jacana gallinacea

Yours Sincerely
Mr Jade Welch

Queensland
