Hi Mark and others I have heard at least once what I thought sounded like an Oriental Reedwarbler on Ash Island (along Green and Golden Bell Frog Way), Newcastle a few years ago but could not get a glimpse of the bird. Its calls was almost identical to those on the BOC tape. I also thought I might have had one at Sydney's Prospect Reservoir a month or so ago but convinced it was a Clamourous Reed Warbler giving out some unusual calls. I would not put a range limit on these rare summer visiting Reed Warblers, Swallows, Waterfowl etc, as any have the potential for turning up in any part of Australia. Many of these probably just get over looked and dismissed as one of the common birds. I have found several of the distribution maps of field guides appear to be incorrect/out of date and some birds range further afield than indicated on these maps. Edwin |
