Sightings

28 November

A Square-tailed Kite was seen at Egans Lane, Newham, thanks Laurie O'Connor per Tom Fletcher.

 

28 November

There were 3 Great Knot at Jack Smith Lake, thanks Duncan Fraser.

 

27 November

Once again the Australian Pratincoles are in Nth Vic. Today, about 25km east of Mitiamo a flock of about 6 were flying around a freshly ploughed paddock, thanks Chris Coleborn.

 

24 November

1 or 2 Painted Honeyeaters were heard in Terrick Terrick NP just north of the Mologa turnoff and there were 2 Bush Stone-curlews in a ploughed paddock to the south of the Mologa-Terrick Terrick NP road about 500 metres East of Mologa, thanks John Boyce.

 

24 November

Several Yellow-tailed Black cockatoos over Geelong Grammar School, thanks Don Greaves.

 

23 November

There were 2 Glossy Ibis and 3 Marsh Sandpipers at the monthly Eastern Treatment Plant survey, thanks Mike Carter.

 

21 November

A male Scarlet Honeyeater was seen in Northcote feeding in a flowering Lemon-scented Gum (Corymbia citriodora), thanks Lawrie Conole.

 

20 November

7 Budgerigars were seen near Pyramid Hill, which is the second sighting this spring, thanks Simon Starr.

5 Black-tailed Native-hens along Port Fairy Road a few km south of Hamilton, last seen in the district in early Jan 2003, thanks Steve Clark

 

19 November

Small numbers of Little Lorikeet were observed over Kurrajong Crescent, Melton thanks Micah Kawalek.

 

17 November

3 Yellow Thornbills sighted feeding with Yellow-rumped Thornbills at the Lismore Cemetery Victoria and 2 Gull-billed Turns and 15 to 20 Great Crested Grebes at Lake Tooliarook, sighted by Bob and Russell Hughes.

 

17 November

An unusual sighting at Ruffey Lake in Doncaster over the past week, as reported on B-A, is a single Black-tailed Native -hen, thanks John Harris.

 

16 November

4 Hooded Plovers at mouth of Fitzroy River and 2 at mouth of Eumeralla River, thanks Peter Tyler.

 

16 November

There were Baillon's Crake, White-winged Triller and White-necked Heron at Banyule Flats, thanks Greg Oakley.

8 Budgerigars seen at Woodvale (just north of Bendigo), thanks Roger Standen.

 

16 November

Satin Flycatcher (one female) at Newport Lakes Reserve, Mason Street, Newport.  Also, Little Grassbird heard calling, thanks Chris Tzaros.

 

15 November

An early record of 60 White-throated Needletails over Duck Point near Yanakie (Wilson's Promontory) in the warm weather, thanks Richard Loyn.

There were 4 Pacific Golden Plovers at Foster's swamp (nearly dry) near Kerang and c.3000 Avocets and Stilts at Lake Meran as well as 3 Grey-crowned Babblers just west of Lake Leaghur, thanks Simon Starr

Budgerigars were seen at Violet Town, thanks Barry McLean.


Updates


28 November

At least 3 pairs of Australian Pratincoles are still to be seen in fallowed paddocks 12 km West of Pyramid Hill, they have been present for at least a couple of weeks, thanks Simon Starr.

 

23 November

Pacific Golden Plover (4) were seen for the first time this season (by Richard at least) in their usual roosting site at Kirk Point, thanks Richard Nowotny.

 

23 November

The Freckled Duck numbers are climbing back up again in the main lagoon just north of the birders' access gate from Beach Road (near the boat ramp) - 20 or so on Sunday 23/11 (he saw none on his previous visit 2 weeks ago), thanks Richard Nowotny.
