The sighting of Oriental Cuckoo on the Vic/NSW border is very
interesting. In 1998, while working on Gunbower Island (a bit downstream
of Cobram on the Victorian side of the river), I saw an immature Brush
Cuckoo, which gave me the shock of my life when I saw it. But to answer
Chris Coleborn's question about Victorian records, I can't say I'm familiar
with any, apart from one 'unconfirmed' sighting from Strathfieldsaye, near
Bendigo, sometime in the early 1990s. That too was reported to be an
immature bird, by a very good local birder. The report was not submitted
to the Atlas.

Hello All,
Phil Barnden, a birdo at Barooga (near Cobram-Tocumwal in the NSW/VIC border
area), has passed on a credible sighting of an ORIENTAL CUCKOO (male) in the
Boomanoomina State Forest. It was seen yesterday. Quite a bit south of its
normal range.
Would anyone know if there have been reports of them in Victoria?
Cheers,
Chris Coleborn
