Hi All,
Just wondering if the galah E. rosiecapillus kuhli is officially
recognised as a definate subspecies?
There has been a unusual amount of interest in this subspecies by
aviculturalists in the last month or two (people wanting to purchase
these birds). Published works I have read list only two subspecies and
either don't list the northern kuhli at all or say it is a probable but
unrecognised subspecies. Anyone know of DNA or other work that has been
completed or someone who can confirm the status of this subspecies?
If HANZAB is regarded as the official position then yes, kuhli is
recognised as a separate subspecies. Forshaw in his latest revision of
Australian Parrots (2002) also recognises kuhli as a separate subspecies.
Both sources note that the three subspecies of Galah could do with some
further work. I am not aware of DNA to the subspecies level with Galahs.
cheers,
