Hi all Apologies if you received this message yesterday. It hasn't turned up in my Inbox so am assuming it got lost in the ether and am resending with a slight text clarification. Saw my first Rufous Fantail for the season at Baldrys Crossing carpark, Mornington Peninsula, Vic today. They usually arrive down here at the end of October so this one was obviously right on schedule. Expected to see Satin Flycatchers on the Baldrys circuit walk but didn't. They either haven't arrived yet or were hiding. However the 'bird of the day' was an adult Fan-tailed Cuckoo with no tail which when viewed from behind took a few seconds to identify.
