Thanks to Robert Read and others who replied to my earlier query about
birding on on the Larapinta Trail (in the MacDonnell Ranges, west of Alice
Springs, NT) We did the 2-day walk on section 2 of the trail on 17-18
September, from Simpson's Gap to Jay Creek and found it quite good for
birds, even though it has been so dry.
I have 2 interesting sightings from other spots in the Alice Springs area:
Alice Springs Sewage Ponds 16 Sept 03, 10 am, Inland Dotterel - an
immature
individual, clearly showing the indistinct breast band..
The dam at Kunoth Well 20 September 03, 6.30 to 7.30 am, Bourke's Parrot.
A
pair came first, then after they had gone a group of three came, so possibly
5 in all. (Also at the dam at dawn were Mulga and Ringneck Parrots, Budgies,
Crested Pigeon, Bronzewings and lots of Zebra Finches. A lovely sight.)
