The Eastern
Treatment Plant in Thompson Rd, Bangholme has advertised an open day for Sunday
October 12. They will have walking tours of the plant between 10am and 2.30pm.
It isn't quite of the calibre of Werribee TP but quite a bit closer to home for
many of us SEasteners. For many years it has been closed to the everyday
birdwatcher, so I'm appealing to as many birdwatchers as possible to attend this
day - wear your bird club membership badges, tell them you are there for the
birdwatching, flaunt your binoculars and bird books, be overawed with the
variety of birds there; and appeal to them to open this plant up to birdwatchers
more often. If enough of us make a personal impact we might influence their
thinking.
Quite a
variety of good birds have been recorded there in the past years by the official
bird count group.
The ad
states bookings are essential and places limited. Call 131 722 Monday to

(No waders
at Edithvale yet. We did see some tiny new born Purple Swamphens, we think-about
5 or 6 with no parents in sight, but smart enough to retreat into the grass
clump as we neared them.)
