Andrew

I've been doing a bit of research on this subject - reindroduction of species that is.  There are so many issues to consider before getting involved in this sort of thing.  I won't go into all of this myself but for anyone interested, and who has the time, there is quite a bit of literature internationally. The book 'Reintroduction Biology of the Australasian Fauna', ed by Melody Serena and published by Surrey Beatty & Sons is a primary reference.

Doug Armstrong's group at Massey University have done a lot of research on effectiveness of re-intro of birds and he heads up the Australasian section of the IUCN Reintroduction Specialist Group - go to
http://www.massey.ac.nz/~darmstro//rsg.htm. This site has many publications listed.

Should you look at this you will be amazed at just how much effort has gone into getting Turkeys back into the field!

Cheers
