In June, a friend, who's interested in birds, but is no expert by his own admission, saw
what he could only think were Orange Bellied Parrots (because of a red patch on their
bellies) in Violet Town, Vic, although he realized that this way out of their range.
He didn't have a field guide to check finer details with him and I'm now wondering
whether they could have been Turquoise Parrots, although I gather they would be fairly
rare in that area.
Hi Chris
Violet Town is within normal distributional bounds for Turks in NE Vic,
and that's a reasonable possibility for what he saw.
Not wishing to be too rude - but remember that male Red-rumped Parrot's
yellowish belly can sometimes have a warmer orange tone too! The field
guides I just checked don't mention this, nor HANZAB, but it's true (I
promise).
