Still no Koels in Como (southern Sydney) but a friend at work said he heard one at Engadine (just a bit further south) last Wednesday morning. Went for a trip to Payne's Crossing (between Wollombi and Broke in the southern Hunter) and a lot of birds were about (despite the wind). Pallid and Brush Cuckoos were both calling and a pair of White-winged Trillers were seen (but not heard). Rufous Whistler, Rainbow Bee-eater and White-throated Gerygone had all arrived by the first weekend of September. No Sacred Kingfisher, Dollarbird or White-throated Nightjar, but they will be there by my next trip up there in mid October
Cheers,
Peter
