Sightings

23 August

A white phase Grey Goshawk was seen at the Langwarrin Flora and Fauna Reserve, near the McClelland Drive car park.

 

23 August

A Magpie Goose has been seen on a farm between Cohuna & Koondrook, thanks Chris Coleborn.

 

22 August

Olive backed Oriole in a garden in Rupanyup, quite unusual in this area, thanks Ian Morgan.

 

20 August

A Pied Butcherbird along the Dunmunkle Creek, 8 kms north of Rupanyup. 20/8/03. Rare in this area, thanks Ian Morgan.

 

20 August

3 Swift Parrots in Brynterion Reserve 13 kms south of Rupanyup, thanks Ian Morgan.

 

20 August

2 Darters were seen at Holland's Landing - an unusual sighting in this area, thanks Duncan Fraser.

 

19 August

There was a Crimson Chat at Gapsted in the Ovens Valley, thanks Dexter Palmer.

 

18 August

There were small numbers of both Fairy and Tree Martins along Glenmore Road between Glenmore and Rowsley, thanks Micah Kawalek

 

18 August

There were 3 Hooded Robins seen at the Chiltern-Mt Pilot NP, thanks Aaron Organ.

 

17 August

There were at least 3 Hutton's Shearwaters feeding about half a km off the coast between Kirk Point and the end of Beach Road, some birds sometimes coming to within 200m of the shore, thanks Danny Rogers. 

 

17 August

A Crimson Rosella was seen in Kurrajong Crescent, only the second by this observer seen in 13 years, thanks Micah Kawalek.

 

16 August

A Powerful Owl was seen swooping on a Sugar Glider on Quail Island, thanks Peter Hermans Jnr.

 

13 August

Fan-tailed Cuckoos were heard and seen at the Cranbourne Botanical Gardens, thanks Jacqui Sheppard.

 

Mid August

There are currently 60 Freckled Duck on the reservoir at Newlyn - a small town halfway between Creswick and Daylesford, other birds of interest include Blue-billed Duck (15), Musk Duck, Red-capped Dotterel (an unusual birds for this area), Black-fronted Dotterel, Great Crested Grebe, Tree Martin, and a Crescent Honeyeater in bush next to the Reservoir, thanks Tim Dolby.

 

13 August

There were 2 Long-billed Corellas at O'Donnell Reserve in St Kilda, thanks Vin.

 

13 August

There were 26 Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos in gums and wattles along Merri Creek, Clifton Hill this morning just upstream from the Roseneath St footbridge, thanks Neville Pamment.

 

10 August

On the pelagic trip off Port Fairy there was 1 Slender-billed Prion and 1 Grey-backed Storm-petrel, thanks Rohan Clarke.

 

10 August

There were at least 10 Swift Parrots at the Pipemakers Park in Maidstone (just south-east of Highpoint Shopping Centre (Melway map 28, B10), thanks Chris Tzaros.

 

10 August

There were 3 Long-billed Corellas as well as both Grey and Pied Currawongs at Banyule Flats Reserve, thanks Michael Mules.


Updates

18 August

2 Regent Honeyeaters can still be seen in the Chiltern-Mt Pilot National Park, thanks Aaron Organ.

 

13 August

The Swift Parrots seen at Pipemakers park were nearby sitting quietly in the top of a eucalypt adjacent to the car park and clubhouse (off Stanford St), thanks Jim Caine.

 

12 August

The mob of YTBC's, seen a couple of days earlier on the Merri Creek, were probably seen again flying upstream along the Darebin Creek Valley on the 12th, thanks Anthea Fleming.
