Sightings

13 July

There were a pair of Purple-crowned Lorikeets feeding in an introduced deciduous birch type tree in the gardens of the Glenrowan roadside stop on the Hume Freeway, thanks Sean Dooley.

 

13 July

There was a Spotted Harrier in Braeside Park that was actively hunting over the now dry wetlands on the Governor Road end of the park, thanks Richard Walsh.

 

11 July

A Pied Currawong was seen very close to the city flying across the intersection of St Kilda Road and Moubray Street, the same intersection that has the Royal Victoria Institute for the Blind on the corner, thanks Tania Ireton.

 

7 July

There are at least two, maybe three Scarlet Honeyeaters outside the Whispering Gums Motel, in Newstead, thanks Sean Dooley & John Alexander.

 

3 July

There was a Eastern Curlew at Ricketts Point, Beaumaris, thanks Michael Norris.

 

2 July

There were 3 Brolgas (2 adults and 1 immature bird ) at the end of Venturers Lane, Lake Connewarre, Geelong, thanks Ian Davies.

 

2 July

There was an Osprey at the mouth of the Thurra River today. The bird was seen at a distance of about 100metres before it flew by very close, thanks Rohan Bilney.

 

Early July

There have been as many as 400 Swift Parrots in Pomonal, thanks Steve Clark.

 

27 June

There was a Cattle Egret on the nature strip beside Upper Heidelberg Rd just near the bridge over the railway, thanks Brian Fleming.

 

27 June

There were 2 over-wintering Cape Barren Geese in a roadside paddock about 5km south of Cressy on the Colac road, there were also Brolgas trumpeting in a paddock near Colac and 2 in a paddock west of Hexham, thanks Steve Clark.

 

26 June

There were 2 Cape Barren Geese observed in pasture near the Phillip Island Airfield, thanks Sally Koehler.

 

25 June

There were 2 Pacific Herons at the Haileybury College grounds at Berwick\ Beaconsfield (Edrington Campus), thanks Graham Beal.

 

24 June

There was a flock of Swift Parrots (at least 50) in the trees at the Waanyarra picnic ground between Tarnagulla and Dunolly, thanks Naomi Blackwell.

 

23 June

There were at least eight Chestnut-crowned Babblers on the Ouyen- Manangatang road, outside RMB 6372, thanks Naomi Blackwell.

 

23 June

There was a very early sighting of a Shining Bronze-cuckoo in Port Fairy, thanks Steve Clark.

 


Updates

The Regent Honeyeater outside the Whispering Gums Motel, in Newstead is no longer there, however there are at least two, maybe three Scarlet Honeyeaters, thanks Peter Fuller.
