Hi all
this afternoon (Sat 21/6) I visited mangroves by the Palmerston
sewage ponds, about 20 km or so from Darwin. Nothing completely
spectacular but a few nice sightings.
Flycatchers - Broad-billed, Shining, Leaden, Restless
Fantails - Rufous (now Arafura), Northern, Mangrove Grey
Gerygones - Green-backed, Large-billed
Then Little Shrike-thrush, Mangrove Robin & Mangrove Golden
Whistler (fem), which isn't a bad way to finish. A few of the
'normals' such as Red-headed Honeyeater and Yellow White-eye
were also seen. Not bad for a viewing area about 2/3 the size of a
tennis court.
This was followed up with a nice view of Rainbow Pitta at Howard
Springs, a little further down the highway.
Happy Birding
Niven
