Lawrie,
Can't comment on the eastern Bass Strait islands,
but I've been doing some survey work on Robbins Island in the north west corner
of the state, and was surprised to find two Painted Button-quails there last
month. They were foraging in the leaf litter under acacias. Brett Lane tells me
he has also seen them on King Island. So my guess is they are quite widespread,
albeit uncommon.
