Nine birders braved the gales and rain for a successful campout at Kooyoora State park (near Inglewood, central Victoria) this weekend .The weather came good as did the birding.
Around the campsite up on the granite hills  we recorded some nice winter bird flocks including local and Tasmanian Silvereyes,Speckled Warblers, plus many Thornbills,Scarlet Robins,Spiny-cheeked Heaters,Gilbert's Whistlers, etc
A trip up to the mallee areas north of Inglewood was well worthhile.Tawny-crowned Honeyeaters were calling ,Shy Heathwrens,Brush Bronzewing and Inland Thornbills all popped up and the surprise was a flushed Spotted Nightjar.
Visits to the more fertile lower lying box-ironbark areas was patchy but some areas were absolutely buzzing.Full of Honeyeaters and Lorikeets.Swift Parrots were found in a number of places--where there was no flowering they were still found feeding, on lerps in the Grey Box.Crested Bellbirds were calling nearly everywhere we went!
An evening try for Barking Owls wasn't successfull but the last mornings touring turned up OBOrioles,Noisy Friarbirds(unusual out here)more Swifties,Speckled Warblers and a Spotted Quail-thrush(also a scarce bird in these parts).
