Hi all

I do not know if tree ferns are different from other ferns but some are at
least not healthy to consume in the long run. Bracken is one of those that
people have considered to be delicasy, especially in Japan. The newly
emerged leaves are consumed in springtime. It is now established that they
may cause stomach cancer and may also have some bad effects on water in
their surroundings.............. Just the fact that some indigenous people
used to eat a plant does not necessarily mean that the plant is safe!
Cycads are eaten but cause disease not only in animals.

If you ever have tried to dry fern leaves in hot and humid weather, you
might have noticed that they make excellent herbarium specimens despite the
conditions. Other higher plants just wilt, go mouldy and messy. My
suggestion is that ferns contain at least some natural fungicides.
