May I put in my two cents worth?
When this theme started, I had no idea what a webcam was. I think I now
have some idea, and offer a suggestion.
Australia is a very dry country - driest continent on earth except for
Antarctica. So pick any area with interesting birds and no local water
supply, and supply one. The birds will soon find it and if permanently
supplied will regularly use it.
Doesn't have to be obviously artificial. Get a suitable piece of hollow
log, rig up a water-holding container not visible from the desired camera
angle, with an automatic device to keep the water level up. Or make an
artificial boulder with a suitable hollow to hold water sufficient for birds
to bathe in. Build in the automatic device when making the 'boulder'. I've
seen some very real-looking artificial rocks.
This approach would mean that you have considerable freedom as to where you
site the webcam: you don't have to go to the birds, you persuade them to
come to you.
