Following the briliant eradication of feral rats on Campbell Island it would be most pleasing to see similar programmes scheduled for some Australian islands. Seabirds and Sooty Oystercatchers sustain a large feral rat populaton on Brush Island in NSW for example. There must be many more examples of which I am keen to hear about Vegetation control is also sadly lacking, which leads to habitat degradation and local extirpation of breeding species. Obviously I dream of the day when the feral species of the entire continent may be dealt with but a few offshore islands would make a great start! Dr P.J.
