Not only did I enjoy reading the email from Wim last night, it also reminded
me of the Blue tit web-cam set up in Norway that I previously posted to
birding-aus about after seeing the story about it in The Age.
"Thursday 15 May 2003, 6:05 AM
"An internet site in Norway is offering yet another bit of reality TV, but
this time there'll be no torrid shower scenes and no hanky-panky under the
sheets, just the daily life of a couple of birds. Blue tits, to be precise."
Web address;

So what do you do very late at night when the heating is bung, it is even
too cold to get your pyjamas on and you feel like you must be in the middle
of Norway anyway...... You spend some of the time watching live web-cam of
the Blue tits there... what else! and I must say, also very apt at that
particular moment in time.

At one stage of the night I did forget all about the web site I had running
and went about clearing my brimming full, well neglected email in-box
(obviously getting it ready for the SWAMP of Puny Twitch Party RSVPs *bg*)
as nothing much was happening web-cam wise and birdie seemed to have settled
down for a snooze and all I could see was its little tail stuck up out of
the nesting material.

Some time later and quite out of the blue, my computer starts making a
strange noise somewhat like a freight train running through it and I wonder
what on earth it is and I suddenly remember the screen I had earlier
minimised. On quickly restoring the screen with the web cam still running,
I find that the little Blue tit has jumped up most perturbed about the same
freight train-ish noise just outside its nestbox. It anxiously hops around
peeping out of the nest box hole then, after a short while, decides it is
all safe and quiet again and I watch it settle down for another snooze. A
little bird all the way in Norway and frozen footed me in chilly Melbourne
were both startled by the very same noise at the very same time. How
bizarre is that! I must say that the house didn't feel quite as big, lonely
and cold after my little feathered-friend cyber encounter late into the
night.

Cheers to all,
Karen.
