Another system that could be used is to have some type of substantial/robust bag and a 'refundable deposit' scheme, but I am not sure how that would work. It might certainly encourage people to retrieve carry bags. I think perhaps South Australia still has a refundable deposit on soft drink bottles. Is that so, does anyone know? And, if so, how effective is it? I remember in NSW when we had refundable deposits on bottles (back in the 1970s, if memory serves) they certainly never littered the streets as they now do. But shopping bags? Practical or impractical?

So a calico bag, series of shopping bags, "collector type" would not sell or be used? I know as you do Ralph and many more on this list about a lass up North, Darwin I think? that makes beaut T shirts only using the very best material. ALL AUTRALIAN maid.

Just think of northerners embaressing Southern white males with their very artistic made shopping bags .... I'll leave the punch lines to the birdo's. Starne how the lack of advertising has occured on many plastic bags eh? like guilt? ashamed to be taken to court I suspect?

Better fly off now to do some shopping with my new "God helps the Salvo's" shopping bag.

Karen Pearson and Tee Pee: How many plastic bags per week does the average Ozzie shopper collect? it's not only staggering but disgusting waste.

JAG hopefully ruffling feathers for his Doona.
