I walked round Banyule Flats on Friday afternoon - nice to see the Swans
adding some more weeds to their nest, plus a dozen Cattle Egrets sitting
on posts and a solitary Great Egret standing on its relection.
In the paddock south of the Swamp were some Yellow-rumped Thornbills -
first I've seen for ages.
Near the Swamp seat, 5 or 6 New Holland Honeyeaters were investigating
the yellow flowers on the Hop Goodenias - for nectar?
The Brown Goshawk was a rather rangy immature bird, Vandyke brown with
streaky breast, which was perched in a dead wattle on the south bank of
the Yarra just across the River from the Plenty Footbridge. It dashed
off as soon as I recognized it.
I'm afraid I didn't look for the Powerful Owl this time.
