Much has been made of the inability or disinterest of the authorities in
different states to prosecute over breaches of the wildlife laws.
I would like to make two comments:
1. Museums and their staff (as well as National Park rangers) do not make
the laws and therefore their opinions are not relevant.
2. The laws are there and should be observed. If you do not agree with the
laws as they stand, try to have the legislation changed. If you are charged
under the existing laws, you have no excuse as these issues have been
discussed previously on Birding-aus.
A number of members of this group have previously expressed their belief
that trespassing laws are not relevant to birders. Now this! Unless I am
mistaken, only obeying the laws that you feel are important is almost a form
of anarchy.
