This trip was the first chance I have had to test my newish Pentax DCF 10 x
42 s in hard conditions.
These binoculars are budget roof prism bins, retailing in Aus for around
$550. They are not guaranteed water-proof, but only water-resistant (Pentax
make more expensive roof-prism bins that are fully waterproof).
Well I can report that they performed welll, despite getting a soaking from
heavy rain (twice) and heavy sweat (every day). They didn't leak and didn't
get any moisture in them, also I dropped and banged them several times
(accidentally), and they were OK.
So, so far I can highly recommend this model for birders on a budget.
I guess where the cheaper price will show is in long-term durability. Will
report on this in due course..................
