In response to Phil Straws comments on Penrhyn Estuary
that wader numbers have decreased and that the area is under constant change
from public activities, and that money for rehabilitation is hard to come by, is
no excuss to allow a near natural area to be destroyed. The Port Botany Corp
plans to encircle Penrhyn Estuary with a container terminal with containers
stacked six high on the southern side and a railway line on the other two sides
with a 108 train movements per day. Forget about bird hides and board walks as
there won't be any birds. We are talking about dredging Botany Bay 16 metres
deep and filling in 70 hectares of the bay, I cannot see how this will enhance
the environment???
