Hello,
There's a great number of good birding spots in and rather close to
Toowoomba. I'll try and describe just a few.
IN TOOWOOMBA
Toowoomba has six great accessible bushland escarpment parks on the eastern
side. These are Jubillee Park, Redwood Park, JE Duggan Park, Picnic Point
Park, Glen Lomond Park and Tabletop Mountain Park. All the parks have great
walks through mainly open/closed forest and in Redwood Park, a bit of
rainforest. The two most well-known for turning up the rarities are Redwood
and Glen Lomond. Go to

of the parks (a more detailed map of the city would be better. Prince Henry
Drive is a breathtaking short circuit above the escarpment looking out over
the valley. Fairly recently, Barred Cuckoo-Shrikes and Grey Goshawk have
been seen there. The Drive borders onto the south of Jubillee Park and the
north of Redwood Park. Also off the beginning of Prince Henry Drive is the
old Bridge Street quarry, where a pair of Peregrine Falcons are currently
residing throughout the year.
Also, the Waterbird Habitat is an incredible spot for waterbirds in the
suburbs. Just a couple of streets west from JE Duggan Park, it is a haven
for waterbirds in the city and is the only real good waterbirding spot.
A few spots out west, such as the Showground and the Bedford St. Tip (where
I believe a pair of Black Kites may be nesting) often turn up some good
raptor sightings.
OUTSIDE TOOWOOMBA
The dams north of Toowoomba, Cooby, Cressbrook and Perseverance can be good
spots to look for birds, along with Crows Nest Falls National Park.
The Lockyer Valley is one of the most bird-rich places around, and all the
dams and patches of scrub are great songs.
That's about all I can think of now, but there should be others from the
Toowoomba Bird Observers, that may be able to help.
