I visited Penrith very briefly on the weekend enroute to a meeting. I was
struck by the number of Noisy Friarbirds and lorikeets in what were
probably Forest Red Gums (I must admit I didn't look closely).
Given the current extremely dry conditions, the lack of any substantial
flowering of eucalypts west of the ranges and the complete disappearance
of Regent Honeyeaters it well might be worth while for local birders to
have a closer look in this and surrounding areas.
As it appears we will have another failing of eucs to flower west of the
ranges again this winter will Regents, and Swift Parrots, again move to
the NSW Central Coast?
