Walka Water Works, Maitland, west of Newcastle
NSW - Sat 1 Feb - no Osprey, no Little Bitterns but an immature Sea-eagle
and at least 250 Pink-eared Ducks and many Great Crested Grebes and a group of
28 Hoary-headed Grebes. Also pair of Whiskered Terns in breeding plumage and a
dozen Eastern Grey Kangaroos taking it easy behind where the train used to be
garaged. Lack of the bittern could be due to time of walk which was 3 to 5 pm as
quite a few people walking the walk.
Immediately outside the water works was a
Hobby.
Thanks to Dick Jenkin, it's a lovely walk all
around the lake with 51 species seen. Included C. Reed Warblers with begging
fledglings and a Purple Swamp Hen followed by 3 tiny black balls of fluff.

Subject: [BIRDING-AUS] Osprey at
Maitland
An Osprey was sighted today (31/1/03) at Walka
Water Works near Maitland. While not that rare it is certainly an usual
sighting.

Ps The Little Bittern reported here was not seen
and according to another birder has not been seen for the last couple of
