Today, Wednesday, there were four Tree Martins and one Fairy Martin at the lake on the south side of Elsternwick Park. I know of only 4 previous records for martins in the City of Bayside, all but one being more than 10 years old. The birds were resting on the dried-out bank of the lake and occasionally feeding. I wonder if they are refugees from fire or drought ...
