Heya Niclas,
What are you planning to do in your year around Brisbane? If you end
up with a couple of weeks to go traveling, you'll probably head up the
coast to Cairns and then back through central Qld.
Presuming you have weekends free, you should be able to visit spots in
a 200 km radius every weekend, which means you can also [shock horror]
head south into NSW, where I hear they have a few birds as well.
Basically, on your weekends, you can be poking around the scenic rim,
the various dams, the wader roosts on the mainland and the moreton bay
islands and so on up to about Inskip Pt.
If you indeed have a year, you could go on one of Jill Denning's tern
counting expeditions on the Caloundra sandbanks, and have lunch with
Trevor Ford at Scoopy's before checking out the waders on Bribie Island
and Toorbul, or going on one of Paul Walbridge's pelagic trips.
However, I digress. The birding round Bne ranges from surburban parks
like the Sherwood Arboretum which has all sorts of goodies turning up,
to a range of wader roosts along the coast and inland dams, rainforest
mountains, and schlerophyll forests.
Look at the birding aus archives, and you will see lots of posts about
southeast Qld.
