Dear All
Had a visit to Werribee yesterday with Tim Dolby and Greg Oakley and finally visited a few renown spots like Austen Rd and The Spit.
While at Austen Rd we scoped 12 godwits and after much viewing and deliberation, without much evidence to go on, we and a group on the BA Wader Id day led by Joy Tansey finaaly agreed that they were Black-taileds. This was confirmed when as we left, all 12 birds flew revealing their black tails.
Went through The Spit looking for Striated Calamanthus, without luck, until we drove through the gate at the end and saw 3 in the grass clumps in the paddock. Very obliging birds sitting on the ground , the gate etc.
A Fairy Tern was seen flying just offshore near Kirk's Pt. A few Turnstones were seen at Kirk's Pt. 2 Glossy Ibis was seen at Paradise Rd.
A Red-necked Stint was observed at the hide with a yellow leg flag on its right leg. I have been told that yellow is from NW Australia. A Pied Oystercatcher was also observed, near Kirk's Pt, with a multiple of leg rings. Red, Orange Yellow on the left and Blue, ?, Blue on the right.
A total of 68 species was seen for the day but we ran out of time.
