G'day,

I was having a look through some of the digital shots I took at Deception Bay on Sunday, and am puzzled by the identity of the waders in two of them. I was just trying the camera out at the time, and took a quick shot of what I thought were stints at the time. However, when I blew them up on the screen, they have some reddish colouring/bands across their breasts and undertail coverts. I couldn't find any suitable suspects in my field guides and sent an image to ozbirdpix.

Bob Inglis thought they might be red knots [though you wouldn't expect them to be colouring up at this time]. Anyhow, I have mastered the art of reducing the jpgs to 50kb, and so can email a couple of shots to anyone who is interested in wader ID.

Regards, Laurie.
