Recent SOSSA reserach trips out of Bateman's Bay have revealed large
numbers of seabirds in the area. The following were some highlights:

January 5th 2003

Solander's Petrel 2 juv and 1 adult in heavy moult (extremely unusual in Jan)
Buller's Shearwater 5
Indian Yellow-nosed Albatross 1 first year (very unusual in Jan)
White-capped Albatross 5 > 3 year birds
Wilson's Storm Petrel 3
Sooty Tern 5

January 11th 2003

Black-winged Petrel 1
Gould's Petrel 8
White-capped Albatross 7
Sooty Tern 15

January 12th 2003

Gould's Petrel 9
White-capped Albatross 12, including 1 first year bird, which is unusual
Long-tailed Jaeger 1
Sooty Tern 8

These surveys indicate a significant passage of Gould' Petrel through the
area during the weekend of the 11/12 January 2003.
