I decided to try out my new digital camera on the laughing gull at
Buckley's Hole this morning.
I almost missed the bird, as it had its head tucked around and looked
like one of the surroundings terns, and then a pair of passing fishers
looked likely to flush the flock before I persuaded them to walk around.
As others have mentioned, I was able to approach to about 10 metres and
got a number of full frame shots. This made composition tricky, as the
camera took a bit of time to get a focus lock at extreme magnification,
and it wasn't easy to keep the camera centered on the bird with the
breeze and camera movement.
Paul, Chris and Brian arrived shortly after I had taken my quota of
shots and was retiring to work out how to delete the surplus shots. I
have shots of the bird from a range of angles and in a variety of
postures, and can forward the odd jpg if anyone is interested [mind
you, the shots are about 750 kb, so I need to work out how to compress
them a bit.]
