Hi All,
Just a quick message to show that Bill Jolly doesn't have the monopoly
when it comes to birding! Marie and I went for a walk around Lake
Samsonvale this morning seeing Spotted Harrier, White-phase Grey
Goshawk, Owlet-Nightjar, nesting Barred Cuckoo-shrike and an
unidentified Buttonquail (probably Painted in a grassy habitat) Returned
around 11am, just as Gavin Goodyear arrived and in his normal unassuming
manner let us know of the find of the day. At Apex Park just outside of
Dayboro he had discovered a 'feeding-frenzy' of cuckoos, all feasting on
caterpillars in a small copse of trees over a BBQ area. There were at
least 2 Oriental Cuckoos, several Fan-tailed and Brush (including
juveniles) 2 to 3 Shining Bronze and a Horsfield's, and Channel-bills
were calling overhead. Suprisingly the Orientals were rather less timid
than I have noticed on previous occasions and allowed reasonable shots
to be taken. Please have a look at the resultant images on our
Photo-Gallery website at http://www.aviceda.org/photo/cuckoos
Cheers Gavin!
