G'day,
As a few folk are planning to visit Bribie Island on Sunday, just a quick
gull update. The Laughing Gull was at Buckley's Hole between 2pm and 3pm
this afternoon (at least). It was both in the lagoon and on the beach to
the east, although then not visible from the road. So if the bird is not
seen between the bridge and Buckley's Hole, a walk might be required.
Alternatively, repair to Scoopy's and try one of their $5 wraps - 'wraps are
back!' - and try again later when replete. I won't report any further
sightings during the coming week unless requested.
At the Kakadu Beach roost today was a Broad-billed Sandpiper, the first I've
seen this summer. It was with the sandplovers (both), Red-necked Stints
(many) and Curlew Sandpipers (a few). But beware, this is not a well-marked
bird. Size and bill shape are the best features. Terns were also present.
Cheers - Trevor.
