Duck-shooting season axed
January 8 2003
By Melissa Fyfe
Environment Reporter

"This year's Victorian duck shooting season was axed yesterday because the
drought has severely diminished flocks and made them vulnerable to
overkilling.
The wild ducks of south-eastern Australia - which have lost half their
population since 1999 - are now highly concentrated in drought refuges such
as the Gippsland and south-west wetlands and the sewage farm at Werribee.
Environment Minister John Thwaites said the concentration of ducks in these
areas made them particularly susceptible to hunting. The adult breeding
stock needed to rebuild flocks and should be protected in this season, he
said."

See the full article at above link, with a few mentions made to Werribee
Treatment Plant.

Thank Heavens!!!!!

Regards
Karen :)
Smiling ALL day.
