I have been wondering if there shouldn't be two classes of twitchers or
tickers. Firstly, we have the professionals. These are those who earn all
or a large part of their income from birding. This could be as tour
operators, environmental consultants, professional photographers, etc. Then
we have the amateurs. These are those who still work full time and can only
bird when work allows or those who have now retired from the workforce
completely and are existing on a pension or other fixed income.

The list numbers of the professionals are generally out of the reach of the
amateurs and may discourage some of them.

Why don't those who have large numbers of ticks, list them on Birding-aus
along with their status as regards amateur or professional birder? That way
we see who has made the BIG effort. Unfortunately, I won't appear on either
list as my total would be small (if I knew what it was).

Cheers
