Hi all, I went with Bob Sothman yesterday
(Sun) morning to have another look at the Kite at Caloote on the Murray River,
and, as noticed before, confirmed that although it had all the other
characteristics of a Brahminy, the upper mandible is extremely long. The colour
is right and the lower mandible looks OK, but the upper is very long and hooked
downwards, a bit like a Long-billed Corella or Black Cockatoo but sticking out
much further away from the face and way past the end of the lower
mandible.
I don't have any international bird books, being a
bit parochial I suppose, but does this beak characteristic ring any bells with
those people who might be into world birds rather than just
Ozbirds?
Tony.
